Family Seeking Live-in Care and Advocate!

Active:

Hi and thank for your clicking on our ad! Our family is seeking live-in care for a brain injured 80 year old male with a lively sense of humour and a will to recover! He is currently a one person assist for toileting, bathing and all other ADLs that involve standing (currently wheelchair bound but in rehab). He will need support wheeling around the neighbourhood. Support with his assigned exercises will be required approx 3x per day. As he moves towards independence, this assistance will be primarily supervisory, as he can bear his own weight but Is a fall risk. Ideally we would like someone who can provide our family member with a mix of good company, but able to read when he and and our grandmother would like privacy. His new limitations are distressing to him, so a great candidate would be able to provide him with maximum independence and adventure, within the bounds of what is safe. Medication administration will be required. He is currently waking often in the night and trying to get up, we expect this to continue as a result of his brain injury. The candidate would therefore be required to wake up with him and supervise during these times. Your typical day: 6am-9am - active morning care in the home including bathing, dressing, wound care, medications, exercises, and breakfast 9am-11am - daily outings including grocery shopping, trips to the bank etc. On days grandpa stays inside, washing sheets (he bleeds a lot) and helping with tasks around the house is required. It is best if he directs these tasks for both his cognitive development and sense of independence. 11am-5pm time off 5pm-8pm active evening care including medications, toileting, dinner prep and clean up where required. They may prefer to wind down watching a movie on their own, judgement will be required as to the level of assistance required on a given night. Dressing and transfer to bed. 8pm-6am your time to sleep, but expect frequent alerts from the bed alarm. He will need cuing to remember it is time to sleep. Ranges from 1-4 times per night. We continue to adjust medications to minimize wake ups. Please respond with a blurb about your elder care philosophy, and why you think you would be a match for our grandfather! Look forward to hearing from you.
