Wanted – Respite caregiver/companion for my 78 year old wife Henny. She suffers from some dementia and partial coordination, speech and perception deficits due to stroke. Hours – 15 hrs +/- per week • 5 hrs/day from 11 AM – 4 PM; there could be some flexibility • 3 days/week - prefer Tue, Wed, Thur. but open to modification from time to time • Schedule can be somewhat flexible to accommodate caregiver’s personal needs. Work location – A very pleasant acreage home in Parkland County just west of Edmonton, 4 km west of Highway 60. You will need your own transportation. We live on the main floor where everything is located so there are no stairs to deal with. We have no pets. Required Duties: 1. Provide daily companionship and interaction/stimulation with Henny such as look at photos, picture books, magazines, newspaper etc. together; read to Henny (articles, short stories etc.); engage in conversation; work with Henny to do simple activities like word search puzzles, dominoes etc. 2. Provide assistance with daily activities including but not limited to rising from chair/recliner; walking and range of motion exercises; toileting; prepare coffee, simple lunch, snacks etc. Qualifications and Experience • Canadian citizen with fluent English • Compassionate and caring personality and able to empathize with Henny. • Physically able to support and help Henny as per duties described above. • Criminal Record check. • Non-smoker. • Experience with providing companionship and caring for elderly. Wage – Starting wage rate is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
