Nurse At Home Needed While on Waiting List for Long Term Care Facility in Vancouver

RA
Active:

My mother is 80 years old diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. She is a one care giver patient. She is on a waiting list for a couple nursing homes close to her son in Vancouver and could be waiting 8 months we are told. . There is no telling how long the waiting list is. Until that time she will be going back to her own home. One of her sons will be taking care of her along with the assistance of 4 hours a day from nurses. If the live in nursing works out well, then maybe she will stay at home instead of going into a home. We are sure she would be more comfortable staying in her own home. She is mostly ok mentally and very independent, but can get a bit confused with a memory on occasion. Most people might not pick up on it as if you didn’t know her history you wouldn’t realize the detail was incorrect. Possibly the medication or maybe very early stages of dementia. She is visited every morning by a pharmacist or nurse or social worker to drop off her daily medication. She is at the point where she needs some assistance for her safety as if someone isn’t here she might decide she doesn’t need her pain medication and then pay for it by being in pain a few hours later. We would be looking for someone to live here and assist her and make sure she takes her medications on time. Days off can be arranged as her son can fill in once a routine and schedule is worked out. A driver's licence would be preferred (but not mandatory) so you could assist taking her to her doctor's appointments if needed. If you could help cook, grocery shop, and keep the place clean and tidy that would take some burden off of her. Our mom is very private, but loved by everyone in the complex that she has now lived in for 29 years. Her home has been renovated and updated and very comfortable. We are looking for a positive, kind, patient caregiver to assist my mother on a daily basis, but the main focus is peace of mind for her sons that she is safe. There is a private bedroom with ensuite bathroom available to move into. The start date would be as soon as reasonably possible for the right caregiver, as my mom is currently in a hospice room where they changed her pain meds, but now it is time for her to go back home, however she can not live alone. There is support from her son who lives in Vancouver, and from another son who comes down from Kelowna, but we would feel safer knowing she has assistance when we can not be there, as we work. At this stage, our mother needs someone kind and understanding as a safety measure, more than technical experience, but someone who also knows the importance of giving her her medication on time. A good cook would make for some nice dinner conversations and a new friend. My mother is also very clean and organized so we would like someone who is also clean and organized so as to not stress my mom out. Her condo is two levels with a basement for storage and to the garage (three levels total). My mom can be left alone at times for short periods and does not need 24 hour supervision, so there is some freedom, as long as her meds are kept on schedule and she eats on a routine basis. Routine is good for her right now. My mom does not have any pets, but often her sons will bring their dog over to keep her company and put a smile on her face. Please email with your availability and expected monthly salary. We have no problem paying in cash for a better rate as we had not anticipated this expense and are struggling to make it work as our mom’s safety and well being are our top priority. Foreign workers considered as well. :)
