Looking for a live in caregiver for our 80 year old father suffering with dementia. He is starting to transition from moderate to severe stage of disease. Loss of speech is rather significant , and recently started having minor issues with things like incontinence , needing help with showering and dental hygiene. No other significant health issues besides dementia at the current time. Other major current responsibilities involves giving oral medications , light house cleaning , laundry and preparing meals , so strong cooking skills a definite asset , as our dad is still fond of good food. He can still feed himself at this point , but might need some minor assistance based on certain foods. Caregiver would have entire basement of extremely clean bungalow in Silver Springs NW Calgary , private bedroom , and bathroom. Hoping to find someone who is willing and able to be a true live in and work for a flat monthly fee. At this point , he sleeps through the night , so there’s no responsibilities during those hours , and we have 7 hours of help through AHS on Saturday and Sunday (11:00 AM to 6:00 PM). Family is covering the evenings on those two days , so caregiver essentially has Saturday and Sunday off , but as a true live in , hoping caregiver would be able to return to premises in the late evening on the two weekend days. We’re a small family trying to give our father the comfort of staying in his home , but we’re faced with the challenge of finding someone willing to be a full time caregiver that fits within our modest budget. The ideal candidate for this position would be a quiet , single , homebody with experience , who wants to avoid some of the unpleasant dynamics of working for an agency (such as excessive driving , pressure of staying on a schedule , etc) , and might be willing to work for a modest salary in a more stable situation , and avoid the cost of monthly expenditures such as rent , utilities , and food , which in a round about way , essentially raises monthly income.
