Community Support Worker (Live-Out - Part-time or Full-time) 3 Positions ❤ West Vancouver

If yes, we welcome you to request an interview as a Live-Out Community Support Worker. Job Summary: To be part of a team of 5-6 staff, we (parents) and our youth's non-profit society are hiring 3 Live-Out Community Support Workers to provide care and development support to our 15 year old with medical and cognitive challenges. The job will take place in the youth's private suite/apartment and in the community. Qualifications: *A certificate or diploma in a human/social service/health care field and 1-2 years' experience OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience AND experience working with special needs children, youth or adults is required. *Work experience as a residence support worker, community support worker, behaviour interventionist, teacher, education assistant, rehabilitation assistant, life skills and social skills coach, foreign trained nurse or health care professional, health care assistant, residential care aide, mental health worker, etc. is preferred. *Training specific to the position and the client's needs will be provided. *The position is ideal for those already committed to the special needs support worker field or for students pursuing studies in: education, ABA-behaviour intervention/therapy, counselling, psychology, community social services, social work, nursing, health care, occupational therapy, speech language therapy, physiotherapy, kinesiology, etc. This is excellent work experience for prospective grad students. *Full proficiency in spoken and written English is required. *A driver's license and clean driver's abstract is required. A vehicle will be provided for the direct client care hours. What will you be doing? *You will supervise and support the youth during the daytime. (Another support worker will assume care for the evening and night hours.) *You will maintain a therapeutic and rehabilitative approach. *You will support the youth to participate in remote/virtual (and eventually in-person) school learning to develop functional literacy and numeracy skills, etc. *You will support the youth to learn home and community life skills i.e. preparing meals and snacks, organization, laundry, housekeeping, grocery shopping, banking, etc. *You will support the youth to participate in a daily exercise program. *You will support the youth to learn and utilize emotional self-regulation skills and to behave in socially acceptable ways. *You will support the youth to develop social skills, communication skills and healthy relationships. *You will support the youth to have fun by participating in recreational and social activities in the community. *You will support the youth to participate in volunteer work experiences. *You will support the youth to attend appointments. *You will monitor and treat the health concerns (i.e. administer medications) as per protocols. Wages, hours and schedule: *Pay rate is dependent on qualifications (education, training and experience). *Wages are paid on an hourly basis. *You will work 2 to 3 shifts per week, with each shift normally being 9.5 hours in duration but occasionally up to 12 hours in duration. There may be some flexibility on the specific days scheduled if coordinated with the other Live-Out Community Support Workers. *This position is ideal for those who want significant days off to study or to pursue personal interests.
