Home Support Worker (Live-In - Full-time) 1 Position ❤ West Vancouver

Job Summary: To be part of a team of 5-6 staff, we (parents) and our youth’s non-profit society are hiring 1 Live-In Home Support Workers to manage the home environment and to provide care and developmental support to our 15 year old with medical issues and cognitive challenges. The job will take place in the youth’s private suite/apartment and in the community. Qualifications: *A certificate or diploma in a human/social service/health care field and 1 to 2 years’ experience OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience is required. *Experience working with special needs children, youth or adults is required. *Work experience as a residence support worker, community support worker, foreign trained nurse or health care professional, health care assistant, residential care aide, nanny (special needs) or caregiver (special needs), parent (special needs), homemaker, etc. is preferred. *Training specific to the position and this client's needs will be provided. *The position is ideal for those already committed to the special needs support worker field or for students pursuing studies in: education, ABA-behaviour intervention/therapy, counselling, psychology, community social services, social work, nursing, health care, residential care, occupational therapy, speech language therapy, physiotherapy, kinesiology, etc. This is excellent work experience for prospective grad students. *Full proficiency in spoken and written English is required. *A driver's license and a clean driver's abstract is required. A vehicle will be provided for direct client care hours. What will you be doing? *You will independently care for the youth from late afternoon until the morning hours, when another support worker will assume the client’s care for the daytime hours. *You will maintain a therapeutic and rehabilitative approach. *You will support the youth to learn and home and community life skills i.e. preparing meals/cooking, organizing, doing laundry, housekeeping, grocery shopping, banking, etc. *You will support the youth to learn and utilize emotional self-regulation skills and to behave in socially acceptable ways. *You will support the youth to develop social skills, communication skills and healthy relationships. *On some evenings you will take the client to have fun in the community, participating in indoor or outdoor recreational or social activities. *You will complete the housekeeping tasks (food prep and cleaning) during the evening (or during the daytime if you prefer). *You are able to sleep at night, but you will need to wake up 1 to 2 times during the night to check on the client's CPAP treatment, as needed. *You will also provide medical monitoring and care (i.e. medication administration) as per protocols. *You will normally have flexible time during the daytime with the opportunity to pursue interests or to study. Wages, Hours and Schedule: *The wage is negotiable and dependent on qualifications (education, training and experience). *This position is paid on a per diem basis. *We are looking to fill 24 hour days, starting Wednesday 4 pm, Thursday 4 pm, Friday 4 pm, Saturday 4 pm. *Some Saturdays and Sundays may not be scheduled, providing some full weekends off. *On occasion, you will provide the youth supervision and support for the full 24 hour day. *On your days off, you will reside at your own residence. *This position is ideal for those who wants to earn a full-time wage over a 3 days, thus have much time off to pursue interests.
