Support Worker (Youth) - Part-time Position in North Vancouver

Job Summary: To be part of a team of 3 regular staff and additional casual on-call staff, we (parents) and our youth's non-profit society directors are hiring a Live-In Home Support Worker to provide coaching, development support, supervision and care to our 16-year-old with medical, cognitive, emotional and behavioural challenges. The job will take place in the youth's private suite/apartment and in the community. Qualifications: *A diploma, bachelor's degree or master's degree in a human/social service/health care field and 2 years' experience working with special needs children, youth or adults OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience is required. *Work experience as a residential support worker, community support worker, behaviour interventionist, teacher, special needs teacher, education assistant, early childhood educator, occupational therapist, rehabilitation assistant, life skills coach, social skills coach, nurse, mental health worker, etc. is preferred. Work experience supporting person(s) with behavioural challenges is preferred. *The position is ideal for those already committed to the special needs support worker field and/or for students pursuing studies in: ABA-behaviour intervention/consulting, education or early childhood education, counselling, psychology, community social services, social work, nursing, health care, occupational therapy, speech-language therapy, etc. This is an excellent work experience for prospective grad students. *Full proficiency in spoken and written English is required. Full proficiency in electronic communication and computer use including microsoft office and google applications is required. *A driver's license and an acceptable driver's abstract is required. A vehicle will be provided for the direct client care hours. *Standard First Aid and CPR C certification is required. (It can be obtained after the employment offer. ) *MANDT System or Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification is required. (It can be obtained after the employment offer. ) *A Ministry of Justice criminal record check for vulnerable sector work is required. (It can be obtained after the employment offer. ) *Training specific to the position and the youth's needs will be provided. What will you be doing You will: *independently care for the youth during your shifts/shift sets. *maintain a therapeutic and rehabilitative approach. *support the youth to attend in-person school learning and/or online learning activities to develop functional literacy and numeracy skills, etc. *support the youth to learn home and community life skills i. e. preparing meals/cooking, organizing, doing laundry, housekeeping, grocery shopping, banking, etc. *support the youth to participate in a daily exercise program. *support the youth to learn and utilize emotional self-regulation skills and to behave in socially acceptable ways. *support the youth to develop social skills, communication skills and healthy relationships. *support the youth to have fun by participating in recreational and social activities in the community. *support the youth to participate in volunteer work experiences. *support the youth to attend appointments. *monitor and treat the health concerns (i. e. administer medications) as per protocols. *complete housekeeping tasks (food prep and light housekeeping/cleaning). *be able to sleep at night but you may need to wake up 1 to 2 times during the night to check on the youth's CPAP treatment or attend to them as needed. *reside at your own residence on your days off. Hours and Scheduled Days: *A normal shift is 24 hours - 8 pm to 8 pm. *The position involves working 2 consecutive 24-hour shifts (shift set) each week and 3 consecutive 24-hour shifts (shift set) every 3rd week, on a fixed rotation. This position is ideal for those who want their work to be concentrated and then have significant days off to study, pick up other casual work, or to pursue personal interests. *There is the ability to trade shifts if coordinated with co-workers and have casual on-call employees cover some shifts. Wages and Benefits: *Wages are paid on a per-day salary basis, and are prorated for partial shifts. *The per-day salary is $507.72 for each 24-hour shift. The equivalent annual salary is $61, 681 per year. *A Health Spending Account/Wellness Spending Account and RRSP Matching Plan is provided. Duration of Position: *Permanent
