Care Giver Required

Active:

We are a loving, happy family in need of a care giver for summer break, and occasional after school hours. We want a fun, energetic, kind, patient care-giver who can engage with our autistic 12 year old son. Brian is a smart, physically strong, high-energy, happy, affectionate boy. He enjoys going for long walks, exploring the parks, swimming, riding the TTC and jumping on his trampoline. He's also prone to running away, so appropriate foot wear and physical ability are a MUST for his caregiver. Brian also suffers from sensory integration dysfunction, OCD, and requires help with hygiene: you will have to wipe his butt when he poops, and help him wash his hands! He primarily uses his iPad and gestures for communication, combined with a very limited number of words. Due to his challenges, when he is frustrated, he experience aggressive and intense meltdowns. Not only must you be strong enough, physically, to help him work through it and self-regulate, you must also possess compassion and patience, as he will lash out at you during a meltdown. Our ideal caregiver loves people, has an open mind, is creative, patient, energetic, and empathic. You must also be able to physically keep up with the demands of an active child with autism. This includes being able to pick him up for hugs, climbing, running, swimming and dancing. The hours we're seeking are 2:30pm-6:30pm M-F for April, May and June. Once summer break begins, we need someone who can work 10am-6pm M-F (July, and the last week of August) back to 2:30-6:30 come September.
