We really want someone who will become part of the family. We are demanding but realistic about housekeeping tasks and would not ask things we would not do ourselves. We also require some flexibility such as working during off scheduled time. When this happen, we will provide a few weeks advance notice.
Fridays are off except when there's an exception. This is a full-time job, with a minimum of 32 hours/week, plus the unplanned time.
Our son has food allergies to peanuts, eggs, sesame and sea food (but fish is ok) so some care must be taken when preparing food for the family.

| From time to time, I will need to travel overnight on research trips. I need overnight child care on these days, which have yet to be determined.
On a typical day, the sitter will rise about 6:30 a.m., to ensure that one of the children walks the dog, both children eat breakfast and have everything they need for school. The sitter needs to ensure ensure my son leaves for school between 7-7:30 depending upon his schedule and my daughter catches the bus outside our apartment about 8:20 a.m.
The sitter will have the rest of the day off, until the end of the school day. The sitter will either meet my daughter at the school bus stop about 3:30 p.m., or if s/he has a car, may pick up my daughter at school about 2.5 km away anytime before 6 p.m. (I will have to make pick up arrangements with school's day care program.)
My son comes home on the metro and lets himself into the apartment. He usually arrives about 4 p.m. and can be alone for an hour or so.
In the evening, the children are responsible for taking care the animals, doing homework (daughter needs assistance; son needs work checked), helping with dinner and school lunch preparation and clean up, and taking baths. They chat nightly with their daddy at 7:30 p.m. After homework and chores are finished, they may watch TV, play with toys or games, or work on scouting projects.
Bedtime is no later than 9 p.m.
Depending upon my son's schedule, he may have soccer practice, a trumpet lesson and/or a math tutoring appointment.
The sitter might have to do a load of laundry since we don't have a full week's worth of school uniforms.
The sitter must be available to spend the night and may use my bedroom during his/her stay. Bedding and towels provided. |

And the kitchen clean with the dishwasher empty. We know that with two kids ( and partially 3) , it's already a lot of work ! So we are comprehensive, flexible and positive people.
