- I began working with my cousin every summer for respite care at age 14 . My tasks included behavior challenges, medication to be given throughout the day, hygiene aspects, teaching sign language along with working on words . Also animal therapy with a rat as well as a dog . I enjoyed my summers so much that it taught me what I was going to do after highschool and went straight into Human services after high school, that following fall i was working with children at Stepping stones ( pre- school age children on the spectrum preparing meals . - I work as an Educational Assistant, everyday is different as the children have alot of differing personalites as well diagnoses . Every Educational Assistant, Human service worker have VERY different days/ nights depending where you are working and what you job title is . For example, I worked in a group home, I also work in the school system and both extremely different whether it is how to deal with behavior, note taking, or - Human service worker certificate - NBCC I have Patience, willingness to work with youth / adults with a variety of different health and or mental health difficulties. You need to WANT to help and be that person that might be able to help or just be there when no one else has been . Have the patience to get through the seemingly difficult behaviour, underneath all of that is usually someone who needs someone who just truely cares . If you do not want to be that person or willing to help . Personally I have found that my most difficult thing has been becoming very attached to certain clients/ students . I find it very difficult to let go and see how they do . Other possible difficulties can be behaviour challenges, other staff members interfering when its not nessasary . NEVER take a bad moment to heart . It is not a bad day . Just a rough moment .
