I have been married for 37 years, am the mother of five grown children (mostly home-schooled), a professional Classical music teacher and performer, and a Christian. I have lived in England, France, The Netherlands, Canada, and Australia, and speak fluent English, French and Dutch. We involved our children in everything from domestic skills (lots of baking!) to hiking and skiing, gardening, home renos of all kinds, and travel. I am a clean - as - you - go person but not a fanatic disinfecter, prefer natural approaches to health and nutrition, and believe in exercise and fresh air (without unnatural facial impediments to respiration). I believe in real play indoors and outdoors, reading books and making up stories, singing real songs, and avoiding virtual reality, TV and screens in general as much as possible. Experience 28 years raising our five children (2 girls, 3 boys), including 17 years home schooling; 40 years music teaching from ages 3 to adult, after a former career in music performance. Hello there, I am Sharmala, a experienced nanny with over 30-years in the field of childcare and early childhood in Sri Lanka and having lived in Canada since 1983, I have a rich multicultural heritage enriched my teaching and caring for children. Quite interestingly, my love for children, especially their eagerness to learn new things, comes my mother was a Montessori teacher trained by Dr. Montessori! Most of my professional experience was working in Yellowknife Montessori School between 1986 and 2000 and , providing care for vulnerable children in Tanzania between 2001 and 2024 under the auspices of Hope for the Future of January 2024, I am delighted to be back in Parksville, Canada and looking forward to continuing my passion for childcare. My core childcare competencies include, but are not limited to: cooking, doing light housekeeping, running errands, transporting children, helping with homework, and adhering to special dietary rules. I am also proficient in pet care and event planning. Additionally, my skills extend to caring for children with special needs and diverse age groups from newborns to early pre-teens. I am readily available to work full-time from the 14th of March, 2024. My flexible schedule allows me to work during the mornings, afternoons, evenings, and nights. I hold a Montessori Diploma, an ECE License, and I am proficient in both English and Swahili. I am a Canadian citizen, non-smoker, and a proud driver and vehicle owner available for travels as required. My preferred living arrangement is live-in, and I am capable of handling up to three children. I am also open to positions extending to housekeeping, tutoring, and home daycare duties. I am willing to provide a police check if required. Looking forward to becoming a valuable asset to your family and aiding in your children's learning and development journey! I am a Montessori teacher with many years of experience. Caring for children and teaching them is my passion. Spending time outside is very important in nurturing the curious mind.

A little about myself. I have worked as a babysitter, nanny, and also in a preschool. I have been a volunteer youth soccer coach in my community for the last few years. I also have my level 3 OFA. I love working with, and being around children. I have no issue with meal prep, light housework, helping with homework, and whatever is required of the childrens' regular routine. I pride myself in being a fun, outgoing and loving caregiver, while maintaining a level of respect of the rules provided by parents. I have been the "go to girl" for many family's over the last few years and am so humbled by not only being a nanny being a good role model and example :) I come from a wonderful big family and I have grown up looking after all my baby cousins from infant to school age so I can proudly say I do have infant experience. I also grew up using my imagination and playing out doors personally I try to stay away from using electronics to entertain, I hope you'd consider my application and if you have any futher questions I'd be more then happy to answer. I have work with large number or children, in a preschool too 1-4 children in employers home. Have worked as the primary care giver while parents have gone out of town for a few days and also been the emgerancy contact for families. I am very outgoing and love to be outdoors.
